Stewards of our Land & Community

At Wölffer Estate, sustainability guides the way we farm, produce, and connect with our community. From responsible vineyard practices to environmental conservation and local partnerships, we are dedicated to protecting the land and supporting the people who make our wines possible.

COMMUNITY

At Wölffer Estate, sustainability starts with people. We work with trusted suppliers who share our values, including fourth-generation family orchards in upstate New York. Many members of our team have been with us for years, with an average farm worker tenure of 15 years.

We are also committed to supporting our community through partnerships with local organizations such as Sun River Health, helping provide accessible healthcare to underserved communities across New York.

GENERATIONAL FARMING

Our estate grapes have been certified sustainable by New York Sustainable Winegrowing, an independent, third party certified sustainable viticulture program tailored to the unique needs of our region. We adhere to a checklist of nearly 200 farming best practices with the with the goal of purely enriching our precious surroundings through promoting high biological diversity and healthy soils, protecting our delicate maritime ecosystem and maintaining the highest level of quality in our fruit.

As of the 2025, we are proud to announce that all our Long Island produced wines are made from 100% Certified Sustainable grapes by New York Sustainable Winegrowing.

We promote biodiversity by encouraging native plants and preserving natural habitats for local wildlife. We also conduct voluntary groundwater testing to help protect the long-term health of our land and surrounding environment.

CONSERVATION

Reducing our environmental footprint is part of our daily operations. We have eliminated single-use plastics at our tasting room and events by using traditional glassware, porcelain plates, and metal cutlery.

We recycle glass, plastic, and cardboard across our facilities, and solar panels on our warehouse roofs provide clean energy, covering more than 20% of our needs. We also prioritize local purveyors for our food offerings to support regional producers and reduce transportation emissions.
